What is aluminium powder coating?

Powder coating is a versatile surface treatment solution designed to provide hard-wearing and long-lasting finishes for aluminium and metal components.

Powder coating leverages the principle of electrostatic attraction to form strong bonds between your metal components and chosen powder coating. The surface treatment process can be expertly tailored to suit your application and project requirements. To discuss your options, contact our expert team here.

Our aluminium powder coating service

Our powder coating services provide extensive colour and finishing options for your powder coated aluminium components, producing hard-wearing, durable finishes to your exact specifications.

Powder coating serves as a sustainable, environmentally-friendly surface treatment alternative to traditional harmful/solvent-based liquid finishing solutions, helping to reduce your environmental impact in alignment with your sustainability commitments.

Offering a complete range of turnkey aluminium engineering services, our powder coating solutions integrate seamlessly with your project and supply chain requirements, delivering a wide array of attractive surface finishes that do not compromise on durability, resistance or quality.

With over 45 years of aluminium fabrication, manufacturing and finishing expertise, we are equipped with the expertise to provide leading powder coating services for your project’s industry and volume.

Let's discuss your powder coating requirements today.

Our powder coating process

Our powder coating process begins with a series of pre-treatments to clean and prepare your aluminium components for optimum surface adhesion. The target components are then negatively charged to form a strong electrostatic attraction between the components surface’s and positively charged powder coating.

At Edmo, our powder coating specialists manually apply powder coatings to ensure an even distribution of powder across the surface for the ultimate finishing results for your components. Once the powder is adhered to the components surface, the aluminium components are heat treated/cured in an oven (between 160 and 200 degrees celsius) for around 20 minutes.

This process melts the adhered powder particles, allowing for the coating to flow and fuse uniformly across your components surface. A strong, durable and attractive powder coated finish is then delivered that provides enhanced protection to the components surface.

Once cooled, our team inspect and package your powder coated components to our exacting quality standards, with integrated assembly solutions assembly solutions available to suit your project/supply chain requirements.

What kinds of aluminium powder coating does Edmo offer?

At Edmo, we offer an extensive range of powder coatings to suit specific application requirements, such as:

  • Antibacterial: Our antibacterial coatings contain antimicrobial agents to prevent and inhibit growth of bacteria across your components surfaces. Suitable for use in healthcare and food processing applications.
  • Architectural: For components used in architectural projects, our tailored coatings offer high durability in response to adverse weather conditions, retaining colour and surface resistance in outdoor environments.
  • Epoxy: Our epoxy powder coatings provide excellent chemical resistivity, and durability, ideal for industrial and manufacturing applications.
  • Polyester: Polyester coatings offer a wide range of colour variants, serving as a cost-effective coating option with effective weather resistance.
  • Epoxy Polyester: Our epoxy polyester coatings offer an effective balance of coating properties, combining the enhanced chemical resistance and surface hardness from epoxy, with the colour retentiveness of polyester.
  • Nylon modified: Nylon modified coatings provide enhanced impact and abrasion resistance, and flexibility compared to conventional powder coatings.

Our powder coating solutions additionally include post-forming options, allowing for the shaping/forming of components after the powder coating process.

As part of our unmatched commitment to quality, we are also able to offer and achieve 1000 acetic hours salt spray results on aluminium profiles to authenticate the quality and durability of your powder-coated components.

Benefits of powder coating with specialists

As a leading power coating specialist, providing surface treatment solutions for aluminium components across the UK, there are a number of advantages for opting for Edmo as your powder coating specialist:

Huge range of powder coating colours

We can supply a total of 200 stock powder coating finishes, and cater to a wide range of colour requirements, including BS 4800 colours, RAL colours, and bespoke colours on request.

Quick and cost-effective

Aluminium Powder coating is a quick and relatively inexpensive process. Unlike anodising, it can give good results on metal with small surface defects, reducing the preparation time needed.

Environmental benefits

Liquid finishes contain solvents that harm the environment and require energy-intense treatment. Aluminium Powder coating is non-toxic and uses less energy during application.
